EDZ Merino Beanie

This is a new product from EDZ, but I have practically lived in mine since I got my hands on it. Like their almost legendary baselayers, the EDZ Beanie is made from merino wool, which means it can be worn for days on end without smelling. Merino wool has natural anti-bacterial qualities, and also ‘wicks’ sweat away from the body’s surface. The EDZ Beanie is double-layered and will fit almost all heads from small to massive!

I first used my test beanie when leading a group on Scafell Pike on an overnight walk. It was that weird weather where it felt too cold if you stopped for any period of time, but the moment you started moving you started to sweat. Combine that with a heavy mist and no wind to speak of and you have a perfect test for wicking clothing!

My body ‘runs hot’ anyway, so I always have quite a bit of sweat to deal with, but I was most impressed with the EDZ hat. The outer layer had to deal with the constant onslaught of the mist, and the inner layer had to deal with my fevered brow. But at no point did I think that I had a big, soggy lump on my head.

I was more than happy with the performance of the hat in terms of insulation, and it’ s moisture management whilst wearing it. The only problem I found was that it takes a little longer to dry out than a fleece beanie, but that is a small price to pay for knowing you will stay warm no matter what the weather.
